Updated On: Mar 11, 2013
Known Crewmember

We are pleased to inform you that known crewmember for Flight Attendants will be implemented beginning with afternoon flights tomorrow Tuesday February 19th. Please review the information contained below that outlines the required procedures that flight attendants will need to adhere to when using known crewmember. It will be very important that you have a full understanding of the requirements of known crewmember to avoid issues during the implementation.

There will be Sun Country representatives at the checkpoint tomorrow from I.T. and Inflight during the afternoon flights to ensure a smooth transition. If you should come across any issues during the implementation of known crewmember, you will be directed to utilize the standard security line and notify your Supervisor so we can resolve the issue.  Do not attempt to resolve the issue with TSA personnel, it will be required to be handled through Sun Country Inflight or the Security Department.

Additional information about the known crewmember program can be found at www.knowncrewmember.org

Re:      Known Crewmember

Known Crewmember (KCM) is a screening system that enables Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security officers to positively verify the identity and employment status of flight?crew members, including flight attendants.

KCM expedites flight attendant access to sterile areas of airports, reduces passenger?screening line congestion, enhances security, and makes airport checkpoint screening more efficient for all who depend on air transportation.

MSP currently has three access points available to KCM participants, two in Terminal One (T?1) and one access point in Terminal Two (T?2). SCA flight attendants may use any approved KCM access point at any participating airport.

The MSP (T?2) KCM access point is located at the exit situated on the left side (south) of the central TSA passenger security check point. Access to this site is gained by pushing the green button along the south wall approaching the exit doors. A TSA agent will open the exit doors providing access to the TSA station computer. The TSA agent will verify the identity of the flight attendant, employment status and authorization to use the KCM access point.

The following are limitations for use of the KCM access point:

  • The flight attendant must be in uniform
  • The flight attendant must provide a company issued ID AND a government issued ID (Drivers License, Passport, etc.)
  • The flight attendant may not escort another person through the KCM access point
  • The flight attendant must only take their own personal baggage through the access point, not the belongings of another person
  • The flight attendant is subject to random screening although his or her baggage normally will not be x-rayed nor searched. When selected for a random screening, the flight attendant will be directed to a passenger screening line for the standard TSA screening process .
  • KCM access points have limited hours of operation. If the access point is closed, revert to the normal screening process
  • As the KCM program is expected to rapidly evolve, refer to the following web site for current information and hours of operation:

www.knowncrewmember.org

IMPORTANT NOTE: If there is an issue finding your information in the KCM database or if you are requested to go through the normal screening process, SCA Flight Attendants are expected to remain professional and cooperate with any such requests.

Remember, random screenings are a part of the KCM procedures. TSA will periodically ask crewmembers to go through additional screening.  Plan your time accordingly.
